Originally from Washington State, I grew up hiking in the Pacific Northwest. A childhood immersed in the vibrant life of the forest and ocean fostered a deep appreciation for nature and animals, memories which I draw on as inspiration in my paintings. Merging abstraction and realism, my art work focuses primarily on hybrid forms that blur the boundaries between human and other. A true Alaskan transplant, I now spend my summers cooking in Juneau and my winters diving and traveling the world. My artwork reflects the curiosities and wonders I have encountered along the way.
For me, painting is a process balanced between calmness and chaos. My work is a form of self-expression, oftentimes walking the tightrope between control and giving in to artistic urges, but above all, I seek to have fun and be happy in my creative process. Watching others smile, laugh, or react in uncomfortable familiarity is equally a joy. My paintings aim to spark wonder in the viewer, portraying my life through bright, saturated colors, animals, sexuality, and dreamscape. These paintings are my passions, poured out on to canvas.
I invite you to wander into my world of weird, and use these moments to reflect on your own life. What feelings do these paintings evoke in you? What is your relationship with the natural world? Where do you see yourself on the spectrum between human, animal, and other?
